Matthewson & Co offers bursaries to small communities

Two different bursaries will be offered this year.
Matthewson and Co. Bursary
Lorri Matthewson and Anna Beaulieu felt it was necessary to offer this bursary program to small communities.

CARLYLE - Lorri Matthewson owns and operates Matthewson & Co. in Carlyle, and she felt that a bursary was needed in the area for small communities.

Matthewson and executive assistant Anna Beaulieu provide support to such areas as administration, municipal councils and non-profits, to name a few.

They offer help in strategic planning, community engagement and grant writing, but that is only a brief list of the things they do.

Their focus is on communities that have a population of 5,000 or less, which also includes rural areas.

Matthewson began this program in 2021 for the first year. It is their plan to continue with this program yearly.

Upon her return to university to get her master’s degree, Matthewson felt there were no scholarships that would apply to her since she had graduated years ago. Matthewson got her degree in her 50s.

This excellent program offers support to locals and in the rural areas. They have an extensive list of communities they work with, which is listed on their website. Applicants should be from one of the areas that Matthewson & Co. has worked with to apply. All this information is on their website as well.

There are two categories that someone can apply for. The first one, called Package 1, is for post-secondary students graduating from high school in 2022 and plan to continue their education right away. The other, Package 2, is a non-traditional offering for those that graduated high school but chose to not attend a college or university for at least three years.

Each package requires you to fill out an application. Along with the filled out forms, a one or two-page essay must accompany it. It should include career goals after graduation and how this choice will help your community. Also, add volunteer work done in the area.

Applying does not guarantee funding.

If you would like one of the packages for this program, please email Beaulieu at abeaulieu@outlook.com. Please state whether you are wanting package one or two.

The deadline for applying is June 16 at 6 p.m. and the two recipients will be announced on July 15.
