WEYBURN – The volunteer organizing committee of the Brothers Golf Tournament donated the proceeds to Inclusion Weyburn and Envision Counselling on Wednesday.

Jackie Wilson of Inclusion Weyburn and Raven Daer of Envision each received cheques for $10,740 for their respective programs in Weyburn.

The 18th annual golf tournament was held on June 12 at the Weyburn Golf Course, with 51 golfers taking part.

Organizer George Siourounis of Brothers Restaurant and Grill said in addition to the golfing, several businesses in the Weyburn area were generous in their support of the tournament, with some very prices fetched in the live auction, conducted by Winston Bailey.

He noted one example was a knife made by committee member Peter Lauf, which fetched about $1,000, and a batch of homemade baklava, also earning $1,000.

In the years the tournament has been operating, they have donated a total of $338,447, mostly to health care services and equipment, in addition to groups like this year’s recipients, said Siourounis.

Wilson said the proceeds to Inclusion Weyburn will go towards supporting their summer camp program, in which they are supporting 23 children, four in the Sunny Scholars program at the Family Place, and 19 in the Fun in the Sun program run by Weyburn’s recreation department out of the Leisure Centre.

Daer said the funds for Envision will go towards programming that isn’t funded by other means or by grants.

The organizing committee includes Marga Cugnet, Gary Anderson, George Siourounis, Harry Siourounis, John Siourounis, Ian Taylor, Grant Marinos, Peter Lauf and Brad Wheeler.
