Checking over high-tech air monitoring station

Keith Wallace of the Saskatchewan Research Council has a close look at the inner workings of a new air monitoring station installed just south of Weyburn recently. The station will provide concise air quality data for the Southeast Airshed Association, which launched operation of the monitoring station on Wednesday, proclaimed nationally as Clean Air Day. The data collected by the sensitive instruments in this device is transmitted via Internet to the Research Council's offices in Saskatoon, and the data is also available to the public on the Airshed Association's website. This unit, worth about $110,000, is stationed on land owned by the Weyburn Utilities Board about 10 km south of Weyburn, and is insulated with heat and air conditioning to keep the instruments at a constant temperature year-round.
