City of Weyburn to celebrate Canada Day at Spark Centre

A Canada Day flag ceremony, barbecue and bouncy houses will be part of the celebrations on July 1.

WEYBURN – The Canada Day celebrations in Weyburn will be based at the Credit Union Spark Centre, as the Leisure Centre’s outdoor pool remains closed.

The City was forced to close the pool after mechanical problems arose from the heavy rains on June 20-21, when a reported 95 mm of rain was dumped on Weyburn.

There will be bouncy houses, and children’s and family games, opening at 9 a.m., and the Canada Day flag ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. with the Legion Colour Guard.

The City will serve birthday cake in honour of Canada Day at 10:30 a.m., and a barbecue will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., along with crafts and face-painting.

The Paw Patrol characters will be on hand to greet their young fans, with appearances throughout the day.

On Friday evening, before the fireworks, the Weyburn Ag Society is holding a movie night in the Ag Society barn, featuring the animated movie, “Sing 2”. The show starts at 7:15 p.m., and will finish just before the fireworks display. The cost is $5 per person, and people are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs.

The day will wrap up with a fireworks display at dusk at the fair grounds, around 10:30 p.m., provided by the City of Weyburn.
