City police deal with many offences involving alcohol

The Weyburn Police Service attended two residential, two commercial alarms and 71 calls for service during the period of Dec. 19-25. Officers attended a number of schools and spoke to teachers and students about traffic safety during the holiday season.

Police responded to a domestic between two parties at an apartment block on Dec. 19; issues relating to too many people in an apartment were dealt with and both parties were warned about their actions.

The same day, members were dispatched to a noise complaint at a residence, and the occupant was charged under the noise bylaw. He was also charged with possession of marijuana.

The Weyburn Junior High School had a dance on Dec. 20; officers attended and did a walk through.

Police responded to a disagreement between two neighbours relating to barking dogs on Dec. 20; they were told to stay away from each other and call the police if there were any further problems.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Dec. 20, an officer on patrol saw a male yelling at and following another male. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant and lodged in cells. He was found to be in possession of cocaine and was charged.
A call to remove an intoxicated male was received from a local bar on Dec. 21. He was lodged in cells and released the following morning after he had sobered up.

One vehicle was towed after it ran into the rear of another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of 16th Street and First Avenue NE on Dec. 22. There were no injuries in the accident, charges are pending.

Police responded to a domestic dispute on Dec. 22; an intoxicated male was escorted out of the residence and was lodged in cells until sober.

A male was arrested for impaired driving after he drove through a fence and hit a residence on Dec. 23. Charges of impaired driving and driving while over .08 were laid.

A male on a bicycle was hit by a vehicle on Dec. 23, the motorist checked on the cyclist and he responded that he was okay. The driver of the vehicle paid the cyclist for the damages to his bike. No charges were laid in the accident.

Police responded to a dispute between two neighbours on Dec. 23, their issues were discussed and recommendations were made as to future actions. No charges were laid in relation to the dispute.

Officers attended a domestic dispute between a parent and daughter on Dec. 23, and the daughter left the residence. She returned an hour later and they continued arguing; the police remained while the parent chose to leave the house.

During a routine traffic stop an adult and a youth were arrested on Dec. 23. The adult was found to be in breach of an undertaking by breaking his curfew. The youth was found to be breaching probation by breaking his curfew. Both individuals were charged, the adult was taken home and the youth was released to his parent.

A local business was victim of a break and enter on Dec. 23; a quantity of cash was taken. An investigation into the break, enter and theft is ongoing.

Police responded to a residence on Dec. 24 where a male was smashing things in the house and was quite intoxicated, and he'd left prior to police arrival.

The male returned an hour and a half later; he was very argumentative and intoxicated but agreed to leave with the police. He was lodged in cells until sober and released the following morning.

Police responded to a domestic dispute involving family and relatives on Dec. 24. One of the individuals was advised to leave and warned that charges may be laid if they were to return.
