Members of the Weyburn Police Service conducted a number of traffic initiatives at different intersections on Aug. 22 and 23, in conjunction with an SGI sponsored province-wide intersection safety blitz entitled "Operation Crossroads".
The enforcement focused on red light and seat belt infractions as well as speeding and cell phone use.
A total of 15 traffic tickets were issued over these two days, as well a number of warnings were given out.
These warnings included the use of engine retarder brakes within the city limits. Truck drivers and trucking companies are reminded that it is illegal to use engine retarder brakes within the city.
Provincially, the blitz saw a total of 516 motorists charged, including 216 for improper or non-seatbelt use, 51 for cell phone use while driving, 38 for disobeying red lights or stop signs, and almost 90 for speeding.
In coordinating these traffic safety blitzes, SGI and law enforcement partners to raise awareness of various traffic safety issues to make the roads safer for all Saskatchewan motorists.
The last coordinated traffic safety blitz was in June, and saw more than 700 tickets issued, including more than 200 for improper or non-seatbelt use, and nearly 90 for cell phone use while driving.
