ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service has launched investigations into scams that affected local people.

In one instance, the EPS said in its report for Jan. 25 that an amount of money was paid electronically as a down payment for an apartment to rent. It was later realized the residence, although for sale, was not for rent. The matter remains under investigation.

Police received a report on Jan. 23 of a person investing a significant amount of crypto currency into an investment opportunity. The individual later learned that several others have been scammed by this system. This matter is under investigation.

The EPS received a report of a nine-year-old girl who never returned home after school on Jan. 25. After a brief search, it was discovered that the girl went to a friend’s house. She was found and picked up a short time later by her mother without incident.

Police conducted a traffic stop with a 51-year-old man from Regina. He had been consuming alcohol. The driver provided a sample of breath in an approved screening device (ASD), which resulted in his driver’s licence being suspended for 72 hours. The vehicle was also towed and impounded for three days.

The EPS received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line. Members located the vehicle parked at a nearby hotel in a handicapped stall. Members issued a bylaw ticket for the improper parking. The owner of the vehicle will be contacted regarding the driving complaint.

An individual scheduled for a trial on Jan. 23 failed to attend court. A warrant was issued for his arrest. Police made contact with him, at which time he turned himself in and was held in custody pending an appearance in court the following day.

A report of a parent not complying with court orders regarding custody issues was received.  Members assisted and the matter was resolved without further issues.
