ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Police Service arrested one person Friday for committing arson.

Police received a call from a Saskatoon resident who was concerned for a family member that was in Estevan. The family member was checked on and appeared to be high on non-prescribed drugs.

After police attended, the individual started a fire in the apartment and was arrested for arson. The individual was lodged in cells pending the investigation.

No further details were immediately released.

Police attended to a local liquor establishment on a report of a male causing a disturbance and trying to start a fight. Officers attended and de-escalated the situation. The male was delivered to his residence in Estevan with no further difficulties.

The EPS received a report of a fraud/scam where the complainant received multiple calls from someone identifying themselves as being from Amazon. The caller requested $600 for the payment of a recent purchase, but the complainant refused to send any money and didn’t provide any further information to the caller.

The calls originated from various spoofed phone numbers including numbers that are local. The scammers use this method of using various numbers to hide their locations as well as to attempt to make the call appear legit.

The public is reminded to be aware of this and other similar scams and to also report it to the Anti Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501.
