REGINA — Those heading to Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park in the future will have smoother travels, now that nearly $11 million in highway work near and inside the popular park has been completed.

Work on Highway 322 just north of Glen Harbour, Sask. to the Highway 220 junction towards Rowan’s Ravine finished up this week, one of several projects undertaken by the province during the 2021 construction season.

Road upgrades inside the park were also included in the project, including the paving of the Underwood campground loops, boat launch and day use parking lot.

"These improvements keep our roads safe so that families and visitors can enjoy their time in our parks,” said Highways Minister Fred Bradshaw, in a statement on Thursday.

The project cost a total of $10.7 million, provided from the province’s $2 billion stimulus spending fund, as part of a $180 million budget commitment to upgrade a total of 280 kilometres of roads in the province.

Both Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross and Last Mountain-Touchwood MLA Travis Keisig thanked the province for it's investment.

"COVID-19 has shown us that the best place to get away from it all is in our provincial parks," said Keisig. "This infrastructure investment benefits all of Saskatchewan by getting people back to work and providing a better experience for all those who come and enjoy our parks."
