Six miles north of Carlyle on Highway 9, members of the Carlyle RCMP, Carlyle Fire department and EMS responded to a northbound Chevrolet truck that had driven off the road and came to rest in a slough on April 17.

The slough is a large and deep enough that the truck sank, submerging and filling the interior of the truck with water.

Another motorist, who saw the truck enter the slough, tried to swim out and remove the 58 year old driver, but could not open the truck's doors. Efforts made to remove the lone male occupant while the truck was still in the water by Carlyle Fire Department and EMS personnel not successful.

The Carlyle Fire Department was able to attach a chain and pull the truck from the water and the driver was removed and transported to hospital by EMS. Unfortunately, he didn't survive.

The incident is still under investigation and an RCMP collision reconstructionist is on the scene. At the time of the incident the roads were covered with ice and slush.
