The Weyburn Fire Department was kept busy with some motor vehicle accidents along with a minor fire in the past week.

On Sunday, the department was called out for a motor vehicle accident on Highway 39, with one person taken to hospital for treatment.

In addition, there was a minor fire at a residence in Weyburn on Sunday, which was contained to a cooking appliance and no other damage was reported.

Earlier there was a motor vehicle collision on Dec. 12 at the intersection of Highways 39 and 13; no further details were provided.
On Dec. 11, the department was called to an accident south of Yellow Grass. Four people were taken by ambulance to the Weyburn General Hospital for treatment.

Fire Chief Steve Debienne announced that the annual Boot Drive undertaken by the Fire Department for muscular dystrophy ended up raising a total of $6,100. This was the largest donation made by a fire department in Saskatchewan this year.
With Christmas almost here, Chief Debienne is urging safety on the road for the travelling public.

"With Christmas around the corner, we are urging everyone traveling this holiday season to be cautious on the roadways. With increased traffic and unknown weather conditions, the road conditions can change rapidly; drive slowly and with care," said Chief Debienne.
