There were about 18,000 bales stacked in long rows for use by the ethanol plant, and caught on fire around 8:40 p.m. that evening. The cause of the fire is not known, and no one was injured in the blaze, which could be seen for a long distance around Weyburn. Fire crews from Weyburn and Yellow Grass were joined by many volunteers hauling water or driving front-end loaders to come and move bales to isolate the blaze and let the fire burn itself out. Fire fighters worked until 3 a.m. to bring the fire under control.
