Saskatchewan's annual free fishing weekend will be held this weekend, July 9 and 10.

Each year, one weekend is designated where residents and visitors can go fishing without having to purchase a licence.

MLA Dustin Duncan, the Environment minister, said, "Saskatchewan has some of the best sport fishing opportunities in the world. This weekend is a great chance for people to get out and enjoy them for free."

More than 250,000 people fish in Saskatchewan each year on average, including more than 40,000 anglers from out-of-province.

While a licence is not necessary, all other fishing regulations, including possession limits and reduced limits on some lakes and rivers, will still be in effect. The free weekend does not apply to national parks, or to anyone planning to take fish out of the province.

More information about fishing in Saskatchewan can be found in the 2011 Anglers' Guide, available wherever fishing licences are sold.
