Several data sources suggest that children and youth are spending a lot of their after school time participating in sedentary activities (motorized transportation, watching TV, computer, video games). The after school time period (3:00 to 6:00 p.m.) is a window of opportunity for children and youth to engage in physical activity pursuits.
The City of Weyburn is pleased to offer the Fun in the Sun Active After School Program to provide Weyburn and area children aged 5 to 11 with the opportunity to enjoy a rich variety of diverse and stimulating activities that are challenging and fun, be creative, playful and imaginative, learn co-operation and respect for others, develop positive relationships, as well as to value physical fitness, creative activity and healthy living.
The program runs in the Sun Room at the Weyburn Leisure Centre on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. until May 31. The daily cost is $10 or for the full week it is $25.
The program offers a blend of sport, culture and recreation activities such as yoga, Zumba, soccer, snow shoeing and much more. Each week is something new and different and each day will include a craft, physical activity and a healthy snack. Registration is currently open and space is limited, so register early to guarantee a spot.
