Kipling School students show support for Food Bank

Over a 10-day span, the students at the Kipling School held a food bank drive, collecting non-perishable food items to be donated to the Kipling Food Bank.

Those boxes of goods were recently delivered to the food bank by some of Monica Olson’s Grade 10, 11 and 12 students.

Food bank volunteers Wayne Struble, and Norman and Brenda Korfman were on hand to receive the generous donations from the students.

Struble provided a brief explanation to the students of how the food bank operates and why it’s so important to the community.

“The food bank works on a volunteer basis with eight regular volunteers.”

“People may be having hard times, temporary or otherwise, and some may be having a tough time meeting their expenses through no fault of their own.”

“Our purpose is to help people out. We have 20 to 25 singles and/or families regularly stop in to pick up a hamper.”

“But those numbers are increasing,” explains Struble.

The food bank has mostly non-perishable foods including dry cereal, peanut butter, canned goods, coffee, soups, jam and pasta.

They also offer up bread, eggs, apples, potatoes and flour as well as frozen meats.

“We’re very thankful for donations of food,” says a grateful Struble and adds, “we gladly accept monetary donations as well.”

Donations can be made at the local grocery stores or at many of the churches.

Struble explains that the food bank is very well stocked and fully functionable so if anyone is in need please don’t hesitate to come.

The Kipling Food Bank is located downstairs in the Kipling Professional Building, across from the post office. The hours are every second and fourth Wednesday from 1-3 p.m.
