Lightning strikes hay bales north of Estevan; sets them on fire

ESTEVAN - The thunderstorm that rolled into Estevan late Wednesday created some activity for local first responders.

Members of the Estevan Police Service were called regarding a lightning strike north of the city that set hay bales on fire. The Estevan Fire Rescue Service responded to the scene. No further information was immediately available. 

Police also received a request to conduct a wellness check on an Estevan male as his family was not having any success in contacting him. Officers attended and determined he was fine.

The EPS received a report Tuesday of a male passed out in a residential area on the east end of the city. Prior to the police arriving, he was picked up and given a ride.

Police received a request to attend a residence as an unwanted guest was there and refusing to leave. Police attended and sent the individual on his way. He was warned not to return.

Officers received a report of mischief to a property currently under construction. The matter is still under investigation.  Police ask the public to report suspicious activity around vacant, abandoned or under-construction properties. 

Police arrested and released an Estevan male on warrants out of Weyburn's court. He was released to appear in Weyburn at a later date.

Police arrested an Estevan individual for being unlawfully at large. He was lodged in cells and remanded to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Thursday.
