The COVID-19 pandemic has cancelled yet another major trade show in Saskatchewan, this time affecting the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show (LHOS).

After hosting numerous bi-annual heavy oil shows dating back to the 1980s, the board of directors of the Lloydminster 0ilfield Technical Society (OTS) Heavy Oil Show has taken into consideration the current restrictions on public events and made the difficult decision to return to its regular date rotation, with the next show Sept. 14 and 15, 2022.

The show, which had initially been scheduled for September 2020, was punted one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, it looks like that cycle will be skipped entirely, meaning there will be four years between the last show, in 2018, and the next, in 2022.

John Stanyer, chairman of the 2022 Lloydminster OTS Heavy Oil Show, said in a release, “We had been really hopeful that we would be able to host the rescheduled show in 2021 and gather our industry experts together. With so much uncertainty around what restrictions will still be in place and with an abundance of concern for the wellbeing of our exhibitors and our community we are not able to proceed with the rescheduled show in 2021. We really look forward to catching up with you in 2022.”

The LHOS is the world premier showcase of leading-edge technology and innovation in heavy oil development and production. The Lloydminster area has a reputation for creating and enhancing recovery of heavy oil.
