Ryan Folk is heading to Kazan, Russia. While his family watched with pride, he was awarded first place in Electrical Installations at the National SkillsCanada competition in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Folk is one of 32 members of the WorldSkills Team Canada 2019, competing at the 45th WorldSkills Competition in Kazan, Russia from August 22-27.  He will be representing Canada with the goal of earning the title of world champion in his area of electrical Installations.

Folk is excited to be representing Saskatchewan as well as Canada, and is one of only seven from our province. Over 1,300 competitors from 70 countries and regions will compete in over 50 skill areas representing six sectors: Manufacturing and Engineering Technology; Information and Communication Technology; Construction and Building Technology; Transportation and Logistics; Creative Arts and Fashion; Social and Personal Services.

Folk will be judged on installing electrical wireways, motor controls, smart relay controls, KNX home automation, and use of different wiring methods, as well as time, safety, neatness, functionality and code.  He is still anxiously awaiting the information packet, listing all the materials he will be using.

While he admits to being a little nervous about the upcoming competition, he was quite comfortable once he was actually participating in the Nationals, stating that he had practiced so much that once he got started it was almost routine. He is not so sure that will be the case once he is in Russia, but he intends to enjoy every moment of it.
