Mayor Button re-elected to National Board

Weyburn Mayor Debra Button returned recently from what she described as "a successful and productive" conference of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), hosted this year in Halifax. At the conference, Button was re-elected to the FCM's national board.

"I am honoured and humbled to be given another opportunity to serve on this distinguished national organization. It provides a two-way opportunity. It allows me to learn more about best practices in municipal government from across the country and also allows us to share the significant successes and innovations we have developed here in Weyburn," Button said.

Button also hosted a delegation of 10 women mayors from the Ukraine, who were visiting the conference to learn more about recruiting and training more women public officials in their home country. In this vein, Button made presentations on gender governance to the FCM's Women's Committee and International Committee.

Button was joined at the convention by Councilors Andrew Broccolo, Bill Rudachyk and Nancy Styles.

"It was a good convention overall. I always learn a lot at these events. I would have liked to have taken in a few more sessions but the extra duties I took on made it tough to fit in as many of the educational sessions as I usually do," said Button.

Next year's FCM convention will be held in Saskatoon. Button predicts that the Bridge City will do a great job of showing Canadian mayors Saskatchewan hospitality.
