Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of August 18 to 24:
During the reporting period, police received a large number of erratic driver complaints and issued a number of tickets for using electronic communication devices while driving. Traffic Safety Act charges for these types of offenses are in the $280 range, while being a safe driver is priceless. The Weyburn Police Service encourages vehicle operators of all types to plan ahead, drive in a safe manner and follow all the rules of the road.
*On August 24, police received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving a local bar. Police found the vehicle and the driver, but when they approached the vehicle, the driver tried to evade them. After a short pursuit and foot chase, a 28-year-old male was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code for being over .08, evading a police officer, and for failing to comply with a probation order. He was also charged under the Traffic Safety Act for driving without a valid class of license. He was lodged in cells and released for court later in September.
*Police conducted a routine traffic stop and consequently an 18-year-old female was charged for being in possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana. She will appear in court in September.
*On August 23, police conducted a routine traffic stop and found that the 20-year-old driver was on suspension and had an outstanding Saskatoon Police Service warrant for mischief. In addition, he failed the roadside screening device and was arrested for impaired driving. After being transported to the Weyburn Police Service headquarters, he was charged under the Criminal Code with impaired driving over .08 and driving while disqualified. Court is set for later this month.
*In addition, his 30-year-old male passenger was found to have an outstanding Saskatoon Police Service warrant for an assault. Consequently, he was arrested and remanded for court in Saskatoon.
*Police received a report of a broken window at Souris School and discarded liquor on the school grounds. Anyone with information about these incidents is encouraged to contact Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477)
*On August 22, police received a report of a female who was attacked by a group of dogs that were running at large near Railway Avenue. Investigation revealed that a 29-year-old female was riding her bicycle when she was bit on her leg by a Boxer/Collie cross. The female received medical attention. The dog was located at the Humane Society and the 22-year-old female owner was charged under the City Bylaw for having a dog at large that has bitten a person. Court is set for later this month.
*On August 20, police spoke to an 18-year-old female and 37-year-old female regarding inappropriate text messaging. Both parties were advised to discontinue texting each other and were encouraged to use proper social media etiquette in the future.
*On August 21, in the early morning hours, police received a report of a missing 16-year-old female who was last seen at her residence on the afternoon of August 20. Later that evening, she was located at a local residence and returned home without incident. The Weyburn Police Service would like to thank the members of the media for their assistance with this case.
*On August 19, police attended a northeast residential area in regard to a neighborhood dispute involving four males ages 32, 33, 34 and 37 years old. They were warned about their actions and dispersed. Police left the scene without further incident.
