PDAP has early $3,000 payments for flooding

The Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) is making early payments of $3,000 available to individuals applying for financial assistance for property damage from severe flooding.

"We have moved quickly to offer support to residents and municipalities, and will continue to make that assistance available so that victims can start the recovery process," said Yogi Huyghebaert, minister of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing.

The special early payments are preliminary payments, with additional financial assistance being offered to eligible claimants whose claims are more than $3,000. PDAP anticipates having the early payment cheques to qualifying individuals within approximately two weeks from filing, although a high volume of claims may prevent that goal from being met in every case.

Emergency arrangements put in place to deal with the postal strike will now not be necessary, as the mail began moving by Tuesday as a result of the back-to-work legislation passed over the weekend by the federal government.
