Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of January 7 to 13, 2013:
During the reporting period, the Weyburn Police Service responded to 91 calls for service.
*On January 13, police attended to a drive-thru restaurant and arrested an individual for impaired driving. The individual was lodged in cells for the night and was later released before a Justice for a future court date.
*Police attended to a residence after receiving a report of a violent young offender who had a knife. The individual, who had been threatening family members, was taken into custody and remanded. The young offender appeared in court on January 15 to face charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breach of probation.
*A lady was bitten on the hand by a small black and white dog that was being walked by its owner on a leash. The dog jumped up and nipped the woman and the bite did break the lady's skin. Although the injury was minor in nature, it is unknown if the dog was properly vaccinated. The couple walking did not know the lady walking the small dog on the leash. It is important that the dog owner come forward to report the health of the dog so that extreme unnecessary medical treatment can be avoided by the victim.
*Police dealt with a domestic situation where the safety of a child was a concern. The matter was resolved when the mother took custody of the child.
*On January 12, police attended a local bar to address a conflict between patrons. The matter was dealt with before it escalated to a physical confrontation. The parties were sent on their way without further police involvement.
*On January 11, police were kept busy with the stormy conditions. A number of vehicles were stranded temporarily on the north and east sides of town. Police attempted to direct people from certain areas to avoid traffic congestion, as roads were impassible. Police worked with other city services to minimize the impact of the storm.
*Police attended to a domestic dispute over child care concerns. Police intervention diffused the conflict from escalating. Both parties were able to work through their differences with no further police involvement.
*On January 10, police received a call of a suspicious person trying to open a vehicle on the street, and looking through windows. Police attended and located an individual in the area. The individual, who denied going into vehicles, was searched and subsequently released.
*On January 9, police attended a residence to assist EMS with a medical emergency. After gaining access to the residence, the patient, who was inebriated, became aggressive towards the EMS workers. He was arrested by police for assault and resisting arrest and was taken into custody. He was treated and had no apparent medical problems.
*Police attended to a domestic dispute where alcohol was an apparent contributor to the concern. The mother was provided a safe place to stay for the evening and Victim Services was offered to assist with the situation.
*On January 8, police attended to an accident at a downtown business. One vehicle drove into the side of a second vehicle. The passenger of the second vehicle required medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was charged for driving without due care and attention.
*Police continue to receive a number of complaints around parking. With the recent snow fall and the necessity to clean city streets and parking lots, police would like to remind people that vehicles cannot be parked on ANY street longer than 48 hours without moving. This includes those who park in front of their homes in residential areas.
*On January 7, police attended to a call regarding a youth who had breached her conditions (to stay in her residence and regularly attend school). After a short investigation, the youth was taken into custody. She appeared in court the following day and was remanded in custody until January 15 to answer to the charges.
*Police received a report of damage that had been done to a building on Souris Valley grounds between December 22 and January 7. Windows were broken on a couple of different occasions over that time period. Police would ask that anyone with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this mischief to contact the Weyburn Police Service at 848-3250 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
*Police dealt with a domestic dispute between a mother and daughter regarding property. The parties were eventually redirected to a civil process to resolve the outstanding issue.
