On Sept. 3, police attended to a domestic conflict where the husband was alleged to pour gasoline on his wife and stood there with matches in his hand. The woman got out of the residence to report the incident to police. The intoxicated husband was later located and taken into custody, where he was charged with assault with a weapon. He was held in custody until court the following day. Bryan Jones, 53, appeared in court on Sept. 4, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of uttering threats. He was sentenced to a one-year suspended sentence with 12 months of reporting probation and conditions to keep the peace and have no contact with the victim, and to take counseling as directed.
As a result of an investigation on a 30-year-old Weyburn resident, a search warrant was executed on his residence. The search resulted in the seizure of a computer and a number of discs with images of child pornography. The male was taken into custody charged with possession of child pornography. He was later released before a justice of the peace on conditions to have no contact with children, and not to possess electronics or access the Internet. He will make his first court appearance in October in Provincial Court in Weyburn.
At 10 a.m. on Sept. 9, police attended to a dumpster fire behind an apartment building. Investigation revealed a mattress beside the dumpster was intentionally lit on fire. The fire was extinguished with out further damage and the incident is under investigation.
On Sept. 2, police received a call from a citizen that they had seen a coyote in a central residential part of the city. Police have received a number of calls of sightings of coyotes in the city limits. Police have confirmed seeing coyotes themselves while on patrol. Police would remind residents to keep their pets inside in the evening to avoid them coming into contact with a potential predator.
At 4:40 a.m. on Sept. 2, police received a call from a local taxi driver, that a group of customers had done damage to his taxi cab and harassed him when it came time to pay. They were taunting him, wanting to fight and made derogatory racial remarks toward him. The matter is still under investigation.
On Sept. 2, police laid seven charges of breaching a court order. The 38-year-old man who was released on conditions while awaiting court proceedings on drug-related charges is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
On Sept. 3, police responded to a call in an apartment building of an individual committing an indecent act in plain view on the balcony of their apartment. Police located the suspect individual, and the investigation is still ongoing.
At 4:17 p.m. on Sept. 3, police attended a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle. The accident occurred on Railway Avenue and 11th Street. EMS and fire attended the scene. No injuries resulted in the accident.
At 5 p.m. Sept. 3, police attended to a residence to a report of an assault. Investigation revealed that a 43-year-old man had broke into the residence and assaulted a female. The individuals were known to each other. The male who had left the scene was located and arrested and charged for break-and-enter as well as assault. He was released on conditions not to have contact with the victim and will make his first court appearance on Oct. 16 in Weyburn Provincial Court.
Police attended to a local business to investigate a theft. The same business has had a number of related thefts by a group of individuals. Police continue to investigate the matter. The suspects will likely face a number of theft charges when the file concludes.
On Sept. 6, police received a complaint of damage to done to a vehicle in the compound of a local business. There have also been a number of other vehicles reported to have mischief done to them while parked on the street. The vehicles are either scratched or a part broken off them. Police ask if the public sees anyone committing these types of mischief to report it immediately.
There continues to be a number of scams reported to police, where individuals are the winner of a large cash prize.
They are required to pay something before they collect their prize. These scams take on a variety of different methods but all are a plan to scam you out of your money. We encourage people not to participate in these.
Police attended a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Fifth Street and First Avenue on 9 p.m. A vehicle was rear-ended by a second vehicle after its braking equipment failed. The occupants of the vehicle which was hit complained of sore necks as a result of the collision, but no occupants were transported for medical treatment.
The first week of school is behind us and police have been actively involved with the schools and the start of school-based programming delivered by the Weyburn Police Service. Const. Madsen and Const. St. John have been working with Safety Patrols to ensure they have the proper directions in controlling the crosswalks for the children to cross. Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) officers have been organizing scheduling getting prepared to deliver programming to Grade 6 classes at all of the schools.
During the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, the Weyburn Police Service attended to 127 calls for service.
Police attended to a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 10th Street and Coteau Avenue on Aug. 27. The accident was caused when one driver failed to stop for the stop sign and struck the other vehicle. There were no injuries.
Police attended to a residence in the 1100 block of Hartney Avenue after receiving a call of a disturbance and mischief complaint the evening of Aug. 29. The investigation determined an argument had occurred between a male and female. The male then went and damaged the female's vehicle by ripping wires out of the steering column. A 22-year-old male was arrested and charged with mischief and will be appearing in court in September.
A complaint was received on Aug. 30 that a six-foot wooden "bridge" had been stolen overnight. The bridge had been over a pond in the backyard of a residence in the southeast area of the city. The incident remains under investigation.
Police received a complaint about a theft from a vehicle on Aug. 30. When the complainant contacted police and advised that he had left his truck parked in a parking lot near a northwest
-area city bar, and when he returned to get his vehicle he found that his golf clubs had been stolen. Police continue to investigate this incident.
A complaint of a theft over $5,000 was received after the complainant contacted police on Sept. 1 and stated that a jewelry box containing numerous items of jewelry was stolen from a northwest hotel room. There are no suspects at this time and police continue to investigate the incident.
