Police lay a variety of charges, investigate thefts

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of January 1 to 7, 2012: During the reporting period, police responded to a total of 69 calls for service.

During the reporting period, police responded to a total of 69 calls for service. The calls varied from noise complaints to false alarms, mischief, break and enters and harassing phone calls/text messages.

*Police attended the schools and spoke to the new drivers about safe driving practices in winter conditions.

*Police have also dealt with many complaints of threatening or inappropriate electronic communications (texts, e-mails, etc.). These can also result is charges, so use them responsibly.

*On January 7, police received a call concerning a man urinating behind a downtown business; the man was located and charged with depositing human waste in public.

*Police were called to a break and enter. The home owner was away from December 26 until January 7. When she returned home she found that a window was smashed and someone had been in the home. The matter is still under investigation.

*On January 6, police responded to a call of a stolen vehicle. Upon investigation, it was found that an employee had used the vehicle and it was returned to the owner.

*South Country Equipment reported that a grain auger was stolen from their property. The matter is still open.

*A male was stopped and brought in for breath tests. The individual failed and was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle while having a blood alcohol level exceeding 0.08.

*On January 5, police were called to remove an unwanted intoxicated male from outside a home. The male was arrested for being drunk in a public place and was lodged in cells. While being searched, the male was found to be in possession of marijuana and charged under the Criminal Code.

*A call was received from an upset female who had received some very threatening messages. The matter is still under investigation.

*Police were called to a local establishment to assist with removing unwanted patrons, which resulted in one individual being lodged in cells.

*On January 4, police received a report of a hit and run. Damage was done to the rear fender and tail light of the owner's truck. The matter is still open.

*Police are still getting complaints of people driving through bus stop arms. Not only is this dangerous, it also carries a fine.

*On January 3, a report was received concerning a hit and run in a grocery store parking lot. A witness was able to provide a plate number for the other vehicle and the owner was contacted. Damage to both was minor. Information was exchanged and the parties were told to report the accident to their insurance company.

*A hit and run occurred on Third Street. The owner saw another vehicle back into his while it was pulling out of the parking spot. The owner got the plate number of the vehicle and charges are pending.

*An accident occurred at Souris Avenue and Government Road, which resulted in one vehicle having to be towed.

*Police were called to remove and unwanted guest from a motel. The room was paid for and the unwanted guest was removed.

*A semi travelling north away from South Hill caught an Access cable line and pulled it down. Police attended, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

*On January 2, a person made a complaint of having his tires of his vehicle slashed. The matter is still under investigation.

*On January 1, police received a complaint of person/persons setting off fireworks in the city. Police attended and were unable to find those responsible. The public is warned that it is against City bylaw to set off fireworks within the city limits and this offense carries a fine.

*Police were called to assist in removing an intoxicated male from a residence. The male was removed without further incident.

*A 911 call was received of an intoxicated male threatening to harm himself. Officers attended and were able to remove the individual, who was found to be on conditions not to consume alcohol. The individual was charged with a breach of conditions and was lodged in cells.

*Police received a call concerning a residence on Foster Street having been broken in to. The matter is still under investigation.

*Three complaints of unregistered vehicles parked on City property came in during the reporting period. All three of the vehicles were ticketed and towed.
