Progress of new arena construction updated to Assiniboia Council

Curtis Nelson from the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association presented a report on the progress of the new Southland Co-op Centre Arena construction.

A request to Town Council was made to wave tipping fees for disposal of concrete and asphalt that will be taken out from the new arena construction site.

ASSINIBOIA - The Town of Assiniboia council met on April 26. Present at council were Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councillors Robert Ellert, Patrick Grondin, Kent Fettes, Graham Harvey, and Peter Kordus; CAO Clint Mauthe; and Kerri Martin, director of corporate services.

Agenda adopted with the addition of Curtis Nelson, ACIA and the removal of Falun Dafa Day. Moved by Fettes/ Grondin.

Minutes of the last council meeting approved and adopted as read. Moved by Ellert/ Kordus.

Minutes of the finance and admin, February 9 Prince of Wales and March 9 Prince of Wales meetings were adopted as presented. Moved by Harvey/Fettes.

The RCMP report was accepted for March 2022 as presented.

Correspondence was approved as presented. Moved by Fettes/ Kordus.

This included correspondence from Potentia Renewables; the Ombudsman annual report highlights; Education Property Tax Mill Rates 2022; and the ATAP reports for February, March and April 27.

Reports given by CAO on monthly activity, statement of financial activity and list of paid accounts. This report accepted as presented. Moved by Harvey/ Grondin.

New Business

Request for decision: Municipal Engineer. Council will enter into a three year contract with three out of 13 Engineering companies. Walker Projects, (general engineering), Geoverra ( Land use planning) and Wyatt Engineering ( Environmental Engineering).  Moved by Ellert/ Grondin.

Request for decision- Asaskan Janitorial was received. Council renewed the janitorial contract with Christian DeGollo for a three year period. Moved by Kordus/ Fettes.

Request for Decision- Council accepts and adopts the 2022 Operating Budget as presented. Moved by Harvey/ Fettes.

Reports presented by each councilor as to the meetings and attendances incurred since last meeting. 

Mayor Schauenberg and all councilors send condolences and sincere sympathies to the families of Rob Greensides.

The next meeting for the Town of Assiniboia Council will be held on Tuesday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 24.
