GRAVELBOURG - RCACS 20 Freedom Fighter Commanding Officer, Lt. Krista Kelly received the Leadership Team Award of Excellence from the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Northwest).

The award reads as follows:

Lieutenant Kelly has provided the cadets and staff of 20 RCACS unwavering support and dedication while fulfilling many roles that are vital to the Squadron and program. With superior abilities in problem solving, mitigating and mentoring, she has promoted and maintained clear boundaries and expectations of behaviour and attitude for all.

With these skills, Lieutenant Kelly has provided a safe, welcoming environment for cadets, staff and parents and has consistently built a team that assists in continuing a healthy Squadron, and its community.

Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron 20 Freedom Fighter parades Tuesday nights at the Gravelbourg Lions Den from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The squadron will be celebrating their 80th year this year, having been founded in Assiniboia in 1941. The squadron was relocated to Gravelbourg a number of years ago. They currently have 20 cadets from Coronach, Assiniboia, Kincaid, Android, Lafleche, Gravelbourg and Shamrock.

The 2020/21 proved to be a complicated training year as the squadron were unable to meet in person and have to provide all our training with online platforms. Most of the cadet program is a hands-on approach involving drill, survival skills, Aviation knowledge, navigation, airport operations, fitness, general military knowledge and personal care. So online training was a challenge to say the least. However, the cadets completed well and we look forward to in-person training in September 2021.
