Over the 2014 Labour Day long weekend (Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 inclusive), Saskatchewan RCMP responded to six motor vehicle collisions, each one resulting in a single fatality. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in four of the six deaths.

In addition to RCMP enforcement initiatives, today is a National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

Members will be conducting enforcement across Saskatchewan, but ask that motorists and others do their own part in stopping impaired driving.

"It is everyone's responsibility to drive safely on Saskatchewan roadways. When it comes to impaired driving, there is no excuse," said a release issued by the RCMP this morning.

The release asks people to report suspected impaired drivers through Saskatchewan's RID program by calling 911.

"Do not drive impaired and stop others from driving impaired. Do not be a passenger in a vehicle with an impaired driver and report them to police," said the release.

"If you are planning on drinking, please do not drive. Have a designated driver. Stay at a friend's home. Call your parents, a friend or family member. Take the bus or a taxi. Plan ahead. Everyone has the right to come home safe, do not risk your life, or the lives of others."
