WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service experienced a relatively quiet New Year’s week responding to 50 calls for service during the period of December 27 through January 2, resulting in a total of 8 charges. Of the charges, three were under the Criminal Code of Canada, two under the Traffic Safety Act, and one under the Tobacco Tax Act.

Although the week was relatively quiet for the Weyburn Police Service, it did not pass by without calls requiring an urgent response. During the week, officers responded to several medical related calls to assist EMS personnel. Officers also responded to several alcohol-infused disturbances at a local establishment but the disturbances were short and either resolved or diffused prior to police arrival.

A suspicious vehicle parked on a business lot for a long period of time was checked and found to be reported stolen from the Oxbow-Carnduff area.

The vehicle was seized and held for further investigation by the RCMP.

Several businesses in the downtown area reported mischief to their buildings including a financial institution which had an ATM damaged as well as their windows & doors covered in a sticky substance. This matter is pending further investigation.

While conducting a requested wellbeing check, officers discovered an individual who was in breach of their release conditions and also had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The adult male was arrested and released with an upcoming court date.

A few items that were found by members of the community were turned in to the Weyburn Police Service in order to be returned to the rightful owner. In most cases the owner is happy to have their lost item returned, but not all cases turn out that way as the owner of a lost wallet was saddened to see a significant amount of money missing from their wallet when it was returned.

Also during the week, two individuals were charged with failing to comply with a condition of their release, and 1 individual was charged for possessing contraband under the Tobacco Tax Act. Officers also responded to a variety of other calls, including domestic disputes, alarm calls, noise complaints, mischief, and wellbeing checks.

Anyone with information regarding one of these matters, or any other matter of a criminal nature, is encouraged to contact the Weyburn Police Service at (306) 848-3250, the local RCMP Detachment at 310-RCMP (7267), or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
