CAA Saskatchewan will host approximately 100 school safety patrollers and chaperones from across the province for the 24th Annual CAA Provincial School Safety Patrol Jamboree to be staged May 1 to 3 in Regina.

The Jamboree is held during School Safety Patrol Week, April 28 to May 3, which was recently proclaimed by the Government of Saskatchewan. "The importance of school safety patrollers cannot be measured, as they perform the crucial job of keeping children safe," remarked the Honourable Don Morgan, Minister of Education. He added, "I commend CAA Saskatchewan for sponsoring school safety patrollers throughout the year as well as for organizing the Provincial School Safety Patrol Jamboree to demonstrate the entire province's appreciation for the work that they do."

Barry D. Martin, Chair of the Board of Directors for CAA Saskatchewan, also commented. "We are proud to help honour these very deserving youth leaders who are sharing their knowledge of pedestrian and traffic safety. A successful school safety patrol program requires a dedicated team effort including the patrollers, teachers, police school resource officers, parents and other volunteer coordinators, as well as sponsors. We thank all those involved for their contribution and commitment to this important program."

The Jamboree will begin with a welcome dinner on May 1 that features Caitlin Taylor, the 2014 Saskatchewanderer as guest speaker. Taylor, also an alumni school safety patroller, will share her adventures and stories with the assembled group of patrollers, chaperones, sponsors, and special guests.

The full agenda of the 2014 CAA School Safety Patrol Jamboree includes visits to the Legislative Building, Government House, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the RCMP Heritage Centre, and the Saskatchewan Science Centre.

CAA Saskatchewan has supported the School Safety Patrol Program since 1951, providing training materials, stop paddles, reflective vests and other supplies free of charge or at cost. The CAA School Safety Patrol Program is available for all schools in the province and further information, including how to register a school, is available at www.caask.ca/patrollers. Currently, there are 3,100 patrollers who commit their valued volunteer time in the CAA Saskatchewan School Safety Patrol Program.

CAA Saskatchewan thanks the 2014 sponsors of the provincial jamboree for their valuable support: STC; ScotiaBank; FirstBus Student Canada; SGI; SaskPower; Pizza Hut; Husky Energy; the City of Regina; TG Marketing; SaskEnergy; and the Government of Saskatchewan.
