The United Nations is reporting that an estimated 2 million people have fled Ukraine as of March 8, as combat against Russia continues.

REGINA — Immigration Minister Jeremy Harrison has announced that $335,000 in provincial funding will be provided to on-the-ground resettlement groups to help welcome Ukrainian refugees to Saskatchewan.

The provincial government said it will work in partnership with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan to assist individuals coming from Ukraine.

“[This funding and partnership] will provide the displaced Ukrainian families who choose to come to our province access to helpful settlement resources they need to rebuild their lives here in Saskatchewan,” said Harrison.

Funding will be provided for community coordinators to offer assistance to incoming Ukrainians, including helping them connect with settlement resources. This includes housing supports, language training and employment sources.

Harrison also said the partnership with the UCC will offer aid to Ukrainian individuals and families seeking assistance in navigating the process to come to Saskatchewan.

UCC Saskatchewan will administer the funding, working alongside member groups and already existing settlement aid providers.
