Two good friends, Holly Adamache and Tanya Kwochka, have combined their experience and efforts to provide a new in-home service to seniors, to assist them in remaining at home as long as possible.
These two women operate Comforts of Home Senior Care, which provides non-medical, in-home care to seniors who may need assistance.
“We try to help people who want to stay at home, to stay home,” said Adamache, noting this is good for seniors who may not have any family members in the area.
“They still have to be able to do some things by themselves, with assistance,” she added. The list of services includes, but is not limited to, personal care (assisting with bathing, dressing, exercising), meals and nutrition, general household duties ranging from emptying trash and sorting recyclables, washing and folding laundry and light household cleaning.
Comforts of Home Senior Care can also help with grocery shopping, running errands, transportation to appointments or for social visits with friends and family, as well as provide companionship and respite care. Holly and Tanya believe that “it’s a much-needed service in Weyburn,” noting it just started up in January, and so far, it has been going well, simply by word-of-mouth.
“We had a good friend who was sick in the hospital and wanted to be at home, but there wasn’t anything here at the time to help her,” said Adamache, pointing out that their friend, Margaret, fell between the cracks in that she was not healthy enough to be at home by herself, but was considered too healthy for other in-home services.
“We feel Margaret gave us the gift of this service,” said Kwochka. “When Holly and I were at the hospital (with Margaret), a light went on in our heads at the same time and we said we need to do this!”
Their friend passed away in October, and as both women have years of experience helping people, they decided to combine their talents and abilities to offer this service. They got their “ducks in a row” by doing a lot of research about what they needed to do to operate a business, such as obtaining the necessary licenses and insurance to get things set up properly. They feel they are providing a unique service for seniors in Weyburn.
“It’s a passion of ours and we want to make a difference in the lives of seniors and their families and help them stay as independently as they can, in their own homes,” said Adamache.
Gradually word has been getting out about the services they provide.
