ESTEVAN - Members of five local 4-H clubs spoke at this year’s Estevan Farmer’s Appreciation Evening Thursday night at the Beefeater Plaza, providing humour and insight for those who attended.

Hannah Tanner of the Crossroads 4-H Club started by talking about her family’s barn cat and how it came to be part of the family. Gage Goetz from the Outram-Madigan 4-H Club discussed his love for playing in Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football. Laine Petterson from the Benson 4-H Club recapped a memorable family vacation through Alberta.

Hudson Vandenhurk from the Cymri Club shared his thoughts on the problems with over-regulation in agriculture. And Braxton Shier with the Steelman Club reflected on his time with the Estevan Ironside Energy U11 AA Bruins this season.

The speeches were repeatedly referred to as a highlight of the event.

The organizing committee of the Farmers’ Appreciation Evening also presented a cheque for $6,000 during the evening. The money was raised through the support of sponsors. Funds will be split evenly between the five clubs and the Browning Club, whose scheduled speaker couldn’t attend.
