St. Michael students to stage musical Romeo-Juliet story

A modernized musical version of the Romeo and Juliet story will be staged by the junior high drama club at St. Michael School in Weyburn.

WEYBURN – A modernized musical version of the Romeo and Juliet story will be staged by the junior high drama club at St. Michael School in Weyburn.

There will be two performances of “Jump and Jive Juliet”, on Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults, and students can get in for free.

The story follows the Capulets and Montagues, warring families who cannot agree on the use of a city-owned building.

The Montague family is organizing a jitterbug dance contest, while the Capulets ironically are planning to stage Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, both in the same space.

Ron Montague and Juliet Capulet, each from one of the warring families, meet and want to take part in the dance competition, against the wishes of their mothers, who are mortal enemies.

The story features the drama of the love story, the ongoing feud between the two families, and lots of singing and dancing on stage, featuring drama students from Grades 7 to 9.
