Stoughton Daze to have parade, games, fireworks

Stoughton Daze will be taking place on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3 this year, but the party will last for more than just the two days. The festivities will be combined with the Canada Day celebrations on Friday, July 1.

The festivities will kick off with the annual Stoughton Golf Course tournament. This tournament will start on the Friday at 6 p.m., and run throughout the weekend. The deadline to enter in this tournament is Wednesday, June 29. A fireworks show will also take place on Friday night once it is dark enough.

The Stoughton firefighters will be hosting a pancake breakfast at the Stoughton fire hall from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. on Saturday. At 10 a.m. there will be a parade to officially kick off Stoughton Daze.

After the parade, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. the Clown Around Downtown event will be taking place. This event will include a burrowing owl presentation, remote control car races, a Jell-O eating contest, pictures with a snake, a barbecue, KBY Dragon, and people having pies thrown in their faces. A clown will also be entertaining kids by performing tricks and making balloon animals at the library from noon until 1 p.m.

The fairground will have a petting zoo and jumping castle open for kids starting at 1 p.m. There will also be an ATV mud-bogging competition at 1 p.m. Throughout the day there will be a $100 dive and free swimming at the pool. The $100 dive is a fundraiser for the pool. Three hundred golf balls will be dumped into the pool, and for $5 someone can dive in and retrieve a ball. There will be 100 balls that are for prizes from Esso and two balls will be worth $100. Slow-pitch league playoffs will also be taking place at various times.

A dance will be hosted at the curling rink featuring the music of Stuck on Red. The doors open at 9 p.m. and designated drivers will be available.

On the Sunday there will be a beach volleyball tournament, registration is at 11 a.m. There will also be an Ellis Trail Ride at 1 p.m., which is a musical trail ride.

Food booths, a dunk tank, and beer gardens will also be open throughout the weekend.
