October 17 - 23 is Education Week and the theme is Valuing Diversity.

The Book Fair is on this week at Stoughton Central. The classes have toured through the displays, and interest is high. In this highly technical age, interest in reading is still high, and many of the students have purchased books and reports such as: "I'm really interested in mythology, and this book is just what I wanted." Star Wars aficionados are flying high with the choices for them as well.

We are happy to welcome Stoughton Playschool into our facility. Mrs. Renae Folk is the playschool teacher for nine students who are three and four years old.

Mickey Adams gave an excellent volleyball clinic for the Senior Boys and Girls in Arcola last week. Both boys and girls teams at Stoughton Central are having a competitive and busy season. From the coaches: while the gym is being renovated, many thanks to the parent drivers who have offered their time and support to drive players to practices and to games. The season would be very different without your help.

And, speaking of the gym renovations: The hardwood floor has been laid, and the first coat of varnish has been put on. The crews are putting in long hours. We anticipate that by mid to late November (at the latest) we will be able to use the gym. The weather has been wonderful this month, and all Phys Ed activities have been held outside.

Stoughton Central School has a new bulldog logo, created by a grade 12 student, Joelle Silzer. It will appear soon on all clothing and letterheads.

The Graduating Class of 2011 held a very successful car Wash on September 29th, at KB Carwash in Stoughton. We really appreciate the use of the facility and donation of supplies by Kevin and Betty Dyke. The Grads will also be holding a Christmas Craft Show and Brunch on December 5th at the Stoughton Legion. Inquiries can be made through Mrs. Johnston at the school.

The SRC is running a canteen each day at noon. On Friday, October 29th, the SRC is planning a "Seasonal Events" fun afternoon.

The annual Magazine Campaign has wrapped up for another year. Mrs. Breault tells us that it's been very successful. Thank you so much to the students who were so enthusiastic about their jobs as sales representatives, and to all of the people who subscribed to the magazines.

The next meeting for the Respect Committee is on November 3rd.

There will be a Remembrance Day service held in the school on November 10th. Community members are invited, and are most welcome to attend.

Hallowe'en is almost upon us. We ask parents to keep in mind that this is a nut-free school when buying treats to give out, and when making lunches.
