The Town of Stoughton had a fairly busy year in 2010 with many different and exciting projects taking place.

"I am very proud of the work that our council and staff has done in the past year," Mayor Heather Balon-Barmann said, launching into a number of large projects that were tackled by the town in the past year.

"We began the first phase of the paving project with the paving of Railway Avenue, Lundy Place, Markov Place and Assiniboia Avenue," Balon-Barmann said.

The Town of Stoughton has also engaged the services of EPEC Engineering to design a new water treatment facility in the near future. The town is currently trying to receive funding through provincial and federal sources to begin construction on the new facility.

To accommodate the growth that Stoughton has seen, the town annexed two parcels of land in 2010, which are currently in development as commercial and industrial properties.

In addition to that, town is also "in the process of annexing more land for a future residential development to begin construction in the spring of 2011."

Balon-Barmann added that she and the councillors of the Town of Stoughton hold the firm "belief that Stoughton is a great place to live, raise your family and explore business opportunities" and stressed the importance of "keeping Stoughton a community that embraces positive changes and is excited to experience the growth that accompanies that change."

The mayor also extended a thanks to the citizens of Stoughton for their support as well as their criticism.

"As a public official, sometimes unpopular decisions have to be made. (The citizens) feedback, both positive and negative, help (city) council to make the decisions that keep our town a place where people want to be," Balon-Barmann commented.

The main objective for 2011 for the Town of Stoughton is the "upgrading of aging infrastructure," the mayor said, adding that she "looks forward to the interesting times we will encounter in the future."
