Thunder Creek Model Train Show offers a bit of everything to WDM visitors

From incredibly intricate builds and scenes to plenty of planes, trains and automobiles, show brings in hundreds of visitors through two-day event.

MOOSE JAW — One of the benefits of dealing with the pandemic the last three years was the ability to focus on indoor hobbies, especially ones that involved building and constructing models and intricate objects.

If the Thunder Creek Model Train Show this past weekend at the Western Development Museum was any indication, modellers took their time away from shows to spend many an hour refining and improving their displays for when things made their return.

Dozens of incredible and impressive builds could be found throughout the WDM on Saturday and Sunday, mingling in with the real thing and offering an up close and personal look at just how detailed model railroading can be.

From the stunning craftsmanship needed to build a U.S. Mexico border town complete with a crashed UFO to the massive multi-module showcases that featured slices of life one might find in any community in western Canada, there was little question that maximum effort had been put into making the projects as impressive as possible.

And folks came from all over the Prairies to show off their builds, including the Bow Valley Model Railroad Club, who have made Moose Jaw one of their annual stops on a circuit that covers much of western Canada.

Here’s a sampling of what was up for viewing throughout the two-day event!
