The Children's Wish Foundation will be holding its sixth annual Wishmaker Walk for Wishes at River Park on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m.

The walk is part of a national initiative aimed at creating awareness about the Children's Wish Foundation. The purpose of this event is to raise funds in order to help grant wishes to children between the ages of three and 17 who have been diagnosed with a high risk, life-threatening illness. The walk will be taking place in over 100 sites all across Canada on Oct. 16.

The Foundation has granted 16,000 wishes across the country since its inception in 1984. Of those wishes, 700 were granted in Saskatchewan and four were in Weyburn. There are currently 60 wishes in progress for children throughout the province and two are in the works for children in Weyburn.

In addition to the Wishmaker Walk for Wishes, the Foundation is also holding their 21st Annual Children's Wish Foundation Home Lottery. The proceeds from the walk and the home lottery will be used to help grant children's wishes and make their dreams a reality. Each wish costs nearly $10,000 to grant.

In 2009, the Wishmaker Walk raised $200,000 in Saskatchewan alone, while $1.4 million was raised all across Canada.
