The Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan has found its candidate for Cannington for the upcoming provincial election.
Formerly known as Wexit, the Buffalo Party describes itself as a western independence party. Its platform promotes more autonomy from the federal government, with proposed changes to GST and PST, the Canada Pension Plan and the use of the RCMP.
On March 10, Wexit Saskatchewan became registered as a provincial party with Elections Saskatchewan, then changed their name to the Buffalo Party on June 3.
Wes Smith is running for The Buffalo Party in Cannington. According to his profile on The Buffalo Party website. Wes Smith was born in Manitoba but was raised in a farming background in Carievale.
Smith has always had an interest in the automotive industry. He worked in automotive repair in Alida, and has a journeyman ticket as an automotive technician. Smith is married with three children. He runs a small business replacing windshields and working on his hobby of repairing vintage cars.
Smith decided to run for the Buffalo Party after speaking with people in his community and other communities and hearing their concerns. He believes it is time for Saskatchewan's voice to be heard.
He looks forward to representing the people of the Cannington constituency as a member of the Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan.
One other candidate has declared their candidacy for the provincial election. Jaina Forrest will be the candidate for the Green Party of Saskatchewan. (No information on Forrest was immediately available.
The deadline to file nomination papers for the upcoming provincial election was on Saturday. Daryl Harrison will be the Sask. Party candidate and Dianne Twietmayer will represent the New Democratic Party.
Incumbent MLA Dan D’Autremont of the Saskatchewan Party had previously stated he wouldn’t seek another term.
The provincial election date will be Nov. 9.
