Weyburn police investigate accident, fraud and theft

The Weyburn Police Service are investigating what is commonly called the 'Grandparent Scam'. In this type of scam the victim is contacted by either a long-lost relative in trouble or an "authority" that a relative is in trouble and needs legal fees.

The police were called to a two-vehicle accident at Bison Avenue and Third Street on Apr. 23. There were no injuries. A 19-year-old male was charged with disobeying a yield sign.

City police are investigating a substantial internal fraud/theft, after a call was received from a local business on Apr. 24. The matter is under investigation.

Police were called to a disturbance involving a very intoxicated male on Apr. 24. The male was removed from the residence and taken home without further incident.

The police received a complaint about erratic driving on Apr. 24. As a result a vehicle was located and stopped. A 16-year-old male with a Novice 1 licence was issued a 30-day licence suspension for driving under the influence of alcohol.

As a result of a traffic stop on Apr. 26, a 20-year-old male from British Columbia with a learner's licence was issued a 30-day licence suspension for driving under the influence of alcohol.

City police received a complaint regarding a 17-year-old female breaching her court order on Apr. 26. She was located and arrested. She was remanded in custody pending her next court appearance.

Police received a complaint regarding mischief to a vehicle on Apr. 27. It appears that someone poured sugar into the vehicle's gas tank. The matter is still under investigation.

The city police wish to remind everyone that the week of April 29 to May 5 has been declared School Safety Patrol Week. Residents are asked to exercise extra caution in the school areas and obey the school safety patrollers. These patrollers are there for the safety of our school children and perform a very valuable function.
