Weyburn police investigate complaint of setting off fireworks

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 86 calls for service during the period of Nov. 21 to 27, resulting in a total of 17 charges. Of the charges, 12 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, one under the Summary Offences Procedure Act, and four under the City of Weyburn Bylaws.

Early Tuesday morning, officers responded to a complaint of individuals shooting fireworks off within the city limits. The individuals were identified and warned of the City of Weyburn bylaw regarding fireworks.

An officer conducted a traffic stop on Thursday night on a vehicle being driven without its headlights on. During the stop, the driver exhibited signs of cannabis use and further investigation resulted in the adult male receiving a three-day driving suspension. Criminal charges are pending.

Officers responded to a reported domestic assault on Friday evening that resulted in an adult male being arrested and charged. The male was released on conditions and has an upcoming court appearance.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, police responded to a reported bar fight, resulting in four adult females being charged under the City of Weyburn fighting bylaw. All four individuals received tickets issued under the bylaw with a fine of $500.

Police responded to a reported erratic driver on Sunday morning. The vehicle was located by officers and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver displayed signs of impairment and further investigation resulted in the adult male being charged for impaired driving as well as driving while prohibited.

Police responded to a RID (Report Impaired Drivers) complaint on Sunday night. Officers located and conducted a traffic stop on the suspect driver resulting in an adult male receiving a three-day driver’s license suspension, as well as having the vehicle impounded for the same length of time.
