There will be a mayoral race in the 2020 municipal election for the City of Weyburn, as incumbent Marcel Roy announced on Monday he will be seeking re-election, running against declared mayoral candidate Nick Coroluick.

“It continues to be my great honour to represent the amazing people of Weyburn and help lead the city on a path of progress,” said Roy.

“I give thanks and credit to our incredible community leaders, fellow councillors and hardworking city employees and contractors who’ve worked so hard to accomplish so much in four years. From lights, roads and sidewalks to city policies, business development and essential infrastructure, we’ve seen more improvements to our city than ever before. But there is still more work to be done and I am seeking re-election to ensure this work continues.”

He noted the current pandemic has created many challenges for residents and businesses, and said, “We as a community and city have all had to adapt and remain diligent as we look to the future. It’s vital we continue forward while remaining fiscally conservative, avoiding needless spending, so that we can exit these unprecedented times on top and stronger than ever.”

He urged residents to get out and vote in this election, as he stated, “Municipal governments have the greatest and most direct impact on your everyday quality of city life. That is why it’s important to encourage friends and family to vote early or in person on Nov. 9.”

“Like so many generations before us, together we’re investing in our city and building a brighter future for the generations to come. A future that right now belongs to you. We must not turn back. We must continue forward, together. Together, we progress.”
