Patrick Marleau, forward for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, reached a significant milestone scoring his 500th NHL career goal. The goal came in the first period against the Vancouver Canucks on February 2. Just the week before, Marleau had the first four-goal game of his NHL career on February 24, scoring these goals on four shots in the third period and three within 7:42 minutes. He helped the Sharks win 5-2 over the Colorado Avalanche.
Marleau grew up in Aneroid, which is 98 km west of Assiniboia on Highway 13. The community is over 100 years old, starting out with the establishment of its post office in 1911. The two-story brick public school was built in 1915 by Stanley Edgar Storey, one of the most significant architects in Saskatchewan, and the red brick church was built in 1926 and designed by well-know architect Charles Nicholson.
