The Estevan TS&M Bruins remain at the .500 mark after splitting a pair of games on Friday and Saturday.

The bantam AA squad dropped a 5-3 decision against the Prairie Storm in Emerald Park Friday, then defeated the Regina Monarchs 6-4 at home the next day.

The Bruins (7-7-2) are tied for third in the South Division of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League, though they have played more games than any other team in the division.

On Saturday, four straight power play goals late in the first period were the difference for the Bruins, as the Monarchs (3-10-1) ran into some extreme penalty trouble.

Brady Long opened the scoring for Estevan at 4:20 of the first, followed by quick goals from Dyson Nordwick-Chan and Tyler Lees to put the Monarchs ahead.

In the last six and a half minutes of the period, the Monarchs took two penalties for checking from behind, one for hooking, one for a hit to the head and a bench minor, giving the Bruins a smorgasbord of power play time. They pounced on the opportunity.

Long's second of the game tied it with five minutes to play. Hayden Cutler gave the Bruins the lead with 3:23 left and Josh Skjonsby found the net 25 seconds later.

A Jayden Davis goal with 80 seconds left in the period completed the power play barrage, with the Bruins scoring four times in a span of 3:37 to take a 5-2 lead after one.

There were two more goals with the man advantage in the second period. Ty Acoose got the Monarchs within a pair at the 13:36 mark.

Bruins defenceman Brayden Pachal countered with less than three minutes to go in the period, giving Estevan a 6-3 lead.

Lees scored the only goal of the third period with five minutes left in regulation.

The Bruins went 5-for-10 on the power play, with the Monarchs going 1-for-9.

On Friday, the Bruins led the first-place Storm (13-0) after two periods, but couldn't hang on in the third, allowing three unanswered goals.

Davis scored first for Estevan four minutes into the game.

Tanner Manz replied with a power play goal at the 14:31 mark, but Cole Fonstad restored the Bruins' lead barely a minute later, putting them ahead 2-1 after one period.

The Bruins stretched their lead at 8:20 of the second courtesy of a power play goal by Davis.

Thalon Kress got the Storm back within one on a power play with five minutes to go in the frame.

The Storm roared back in the third, scoring three times in barely five minutes to keep their undefeated record intact.

Tyson Manz scored his club's third power play marker of the game six minutes in, followed by a Tanner Manz goal less than two minutes later to give the Storm the lead.

Jacob Piller's goal at the 11:15 mark added some insurance.

The Bruins don't play again in league action until Dec. 16, when they host Weyburn.
