Hockey season is upon us once again. The Carlyle Bantam team is ready and excited to start the season with good times and good hockey. Taking on the coaching roles this year are Fritz Sauter and Clarke Lemieux.

The players and parents are very happy and grateful that Clarke and Fritz are giving up their time to work with our team. Also, back on the bench this year is Tom Black and of course, our terrific team manager, Deb Chalus.

The Bantam team includes: Jodi Black, Brett Turgeon, Evan Anderson, Masen Big Eagle, Riley Smith, Luke McCrimmon, Brayden Starr, Kirkland Chalus, Bailey Stigings, Drake Smith, Marc Shaw, Walker Hengen, and Jack Easton.

The team started the season off with a home and home series against Coronach/Bengough. Game #1 in Carlyle was full of action. The Bantams had an explosive first period. Taking the lead 4 goals to none courtesy of Brett Turgeon and Luke McCrimmon with assists from Walker Hengen, Marc Shaw, Brayden Starr and Luke McCrimmon. The second period saw the Coronach team find their hockey legs( and the Cougar team find the penalty box) to net three goals to our one from Brett Turgeon assisted by Brayden Starr. Third period the Coronach team stayed very strong netting a whopping six goals, while Carlyle tried to keep up with Drake Smith finding the back of the net twice with help from Evan Anderson and Masen Big Eagle. The final score was 9-7 Coronach. The following Friday the Cougars headed back to Coronach. This proved to be a much better game from both teams from start to finish. Carlyle was first to strike with a two on one rush. The pass from Marc Shaw to Brett Turgeon sailed passed the Coronach Goalie. Coronach was able to answer back minutes later and the score remained tied that period.

Second period ended with the Cougars up by one. Marc Shaw scored our second goal with a great shot taken from the face off but Coronach was again able to answer back . Our third goal of the game came from Evan Anderson who was on the receiving end of a great pass out from behind the net by Luke McCrimmon. Third period the Coronach team tied up the game but the Cougars came back with another from Evan Anderson assisted by Luke McCrimmon to take the lead once again and that was enough to end the game in our favour 4-3.

We'd like to send a speedy recovery out to Brayden Starr who suffered a separated shoulder during our last game. Get well soon Brayden!
