Beavers will host a skills clinic

The Weyburn Beavers will offer baseball tips to young players in the Weyburn area during a pair of three-day clinics. The first will be from July 13 to 15 and the other will run from July 20 to 22. Both clinics will be at Tom Laing Park.

The Weyburn Beavers will offer baseball tips to young players in the Weyburn area during a pair of three-day clinics. The first will be from July 13 to 15 and the other will run from July 20 to 22. Both clinics will be at Tom Laing Park. Players between the ages of seven and 12 are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the game.Beaver players and coaches will offer tips on hitting, bunting, pitching, catching, base running, infield and outfield play, and many other aspects of the game. Each session will begin at 9 a.m., and there will be three-and-a-half hours of instruction. Players should come in appropriate baseball attire and bring their own gloves. Catchers should bring their own catching gear, if possible. Players may also bring their own bats, but bats, baseballs and other basic equipment will be provided.The Beavers will also host a summer pitching program. Beavers' coaches and players will develop training sessions for those who want more in-depth training on all aspects of pitchingPlayers will be grouped according to age. Those 13 years and up will be shown drills to develop proper pitching mechanics, change-ups, curveballs and pick-off techniques. They will also learn to throw harder and with more control.Each training session will be approximately one hour in length. Pitchers can register for six or 10 sessions.
