Ben Johnstone named SJHL Rookie of the Month

Ben Johnstone, son of Larry and Deb of Carlyle, has been named the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Rookie of the Month.

Local Ben Johnstone was named SJHL Rookie of the Month in November. The young player scored a total of five goals and four assists during the month of November.

Ben Johnstone, son of Larry and Deb of Carlyle, has been named the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Rookie of the Month.

The 1993-born forward, who plays with the Estevan Bruins, has scored five goals and four assists in a total of 12 games played during the month of November.

Residents of Carlyle were witness to three of those goals when Johnstone, playing on home ice in Carlyle, put forth an outstanding performance scoring a hat trick in front of his hometown crowd.

In a previous interview with head coach Keith Cassidy of the Estevan Bruins, Cassidy stated "I see a bright future for Ben as an Estevan Bruin. He is a character individual with a passion for the game. He wants to be a hockey player, and wants to develop to the limits of his potential."

Johnstone's season total, going into December, included eight goals and six assists in a total of 29 games. Honourable mentions for Rookie of the Year went to Austin Yano from Estevan, Taylor Reich from Estevan, and Devin Buffalo from Flin Flon.
