ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins have released an update on the condition of Cody Davis, who left Saturday’s game against the Melfort Mustangs with an injury.

Davis, a fourth-year forward who is one of the Bruins’ alternate captains this season, was injured during the first period of the Bruins’ 6-1 loss to the Melfort Mustangs. Davis, who hails from Alameda, suffered a broken ankle when he slid into the net and boards after being slashed on a breakaway by Mustangs’ defenceman Leyton Holoien.

He remained on the ice for some time after the collision before being helped off the ice by teammates. He was assessed at the rink and sent to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken ankle.

“Cody will be out for at least a few weeks but we hope to see him back some time after the Christmas break,” the Bruins said in a news release.

"I want to thank everyone for the support, concern and well wishes. I'll be back before you know it,” Davis said.

Davis, who hails from Alameda, is second on the Bruins in goals with 10 and tied for second in points with 21 this season. In his last 16 games, he had eight goals and 17 points.

Holoien has since been suspended for two games. He is fourth in the league in points by defencemen this season with 17 in 20 games.
