Bruins score nine times to blow out Melville

The Estevan Bruins had lots of reasons to celebrate Saturday against Melville.

MELVILLE - The Estevan Bruins scored a season-high nine goals to crush the host Melville Millionaires 9-0 Saturday night.

The Bruins started scoring early, as Griffin Asham-Moroz notched a shorthanded goal 2:21 into the first period. Kian Calder added another shorthanded goal at the 11-minute mark of the first, and Mikol Sartor scored 98 seconds later to add to the lead.

It remained a 3-0 game until the 8:12 mark of the second, when Antoine St. Onge scored. Goals by Cody Davis, Eric Houk and Asham-Moroz in a two-minute span of the middle frame put the Bruins up by seven.

Brandon Ambrozik and Zach Burfoot added goals in the third to put the game away. Burfoot’s goal was his first in the SJHL.

Asham-Moroz, St. Onge, Davis and Calder all finished with three-point nights.

Boston Bilous stopped all 18 shots he faced for Estevan, who outshot Melville 40-18, including 18-4 in the first period.

Jared Thompson and Alexis Giroux shared goaltending duties for Melville.

The Bruins (7-3-0-1) will visit the Battlefords North Stars Tuesday and the Kindersley Klippers Wednesday.
