The Carlyle Golf Club was busy on Aug. 13 and 14 with tournament action held both days. The fairway was groomed and the greens closely tended to, making for two beautiful days of golfing action as there was little wind and sunshine was plentiful.

Golfing is a past time that many take up over the summer, which provides fresh air and an opportunity to enjoy the warmth of summer before Canadian winters settle in. Considered a gentleman's game it focuses on sportsmanship and camaraderie, which was the intent of the tournaments.

Enjoyed by a wide range of people, golf provides exercise and a chance to enjoy nature, while taking part in competition.

On Aug. 13 there was Senior Golf Tournament held with a total of 40 golfers coming out for the day. They took part in an 18-hole two person best ball tournament with siblings, Robert Clark and Lynn Brady, taking first in the championship flight.

Winners of subsequent flights were George Anderson with Vicki Clark for the first flight, Mel Freitag and Marg Krenz in the second flight, and Rick Burnett with Jean Wilmot for the third flight.

The tournament on Aug. 14 was then directed at junior golfers. With a total of 36 participants, the day was a great success as youth attended from Carlyle and surrounding communities. The juniors played a two person best ball tournament of 18-holes as well.

Winners of the grand championship went to Jeff Fenkle and Colin Gudereit. Winners of the first flight were Walker Hengen and Riley James, the second flight went to Dylan Hall and Mason Strutt, the third flight to Aiden Bavle and Lane Newell, with the fourth flight being won by Brock and Ethan Newell.

The senior tournament was held as a fun way to encourage people to continue playing the sport throughout their lives, while the junior tournament was held to get youth more involved with the game.

"We're trying to get more and more youth into the sport," Brittany Fox, junior tournament organizer, explained. "It's our attempt to get kids involved in the community and to get out be active."

In the end regardless of winning or losing, each youth participant received a participation prize thanks to a number of local sponsors.

Overall both tournaments went very well and the Carlyle Golf Club was happy to have all of the participants with them.
